Sometimes a quick dinner just hits the spot. After a long day at work, who wants to be spending ages at the cooker? I came across falafels a few years ago and am a real fan. Some varieties are made with wheat and gluten though, so you need to shop around. I tried Hale n’Hearty’s quick & easy falafel mix and that’s exactly what it is. This mix contains just organic chickpeas and a blend of herbs and spices – cumin, parsley, garlic, coriander and white pepper. It is gluten free, wheat free, soya free, GMO free, suitable for vegans. There’s no artificial, colourings or preservatives either. Falafels are a quick and nutritious dinner. Chickpeas are very good for you and are a good source of zinc, folate and protein. They are also high in dietary fibre and a healthy source of carbohydrates. They are also low in fat. The blend of herbs and spices in this mix is great, very tasty. The consistency is good, they stick well together. If I had to have a negative, I thought they were a little dry. However to overcome this, use a dip on the side – a chutney or mayo. Simply add some water to the mix and stir til all of the water is absorbed and you’ve a good consistency. Leave to stand for 10 mins, then onto the frying pan with a small drop of olive oil till they are browned each side. You can wither make them into burgers or into round balls, whatever your preference is. They are really filling, so don’t be fooled. I had an eyes bigger than stomach moment! I’d recommend them for something different!
A hearty dinner
