I’d been meaning to try Bay restaurant in Clontarf for a while, so finally got around to it one evening last week with some friends. The menu was recently mentioned on “Operation Transformation” as it details each dish by low GI, dairy free, yeast free, gluten free, wheat free, low in sugar etc. Actually there is so much detail on the menu and with the colour coding, it is nearly like a game! There is brilliant variety for people with special dietary requirements including those that are weight conscious, and it saves you from interrogating the waitress about what’s in each dish. Bay believe that healthy lifestyle anchors wellbeing, boosts energy & vitality. Their philosophy is to create seasonal, daily delivered fresh and affordable cuisine. Their new menu design is intended to offer an experience in which guests can have a healthy guide that caters for all dietary needs & conscious eating, while still maintaining full flavoured dishes. When I eventually figured out what I could eat by looking at the options that didn’t have wheat, I placed my order. There were 3 of us, so we shared a “full” portion of chicken wings between us & it was plenty. We got 4/5 wings each. They were tasty, sauce was a little thick on them but nice. For the main course, I order the beef burger, which had melted cheedar cheese, bacon, tomato, onion, bay’s relish and chips. You can have regular or coeliac chips. I also asked for the burger without the bun and they gave me the burger on gluten free bread too. It was very tasty and no stomach issues with it. The atmosphere was nice with great views. If I had to have a complaint, it wasn’t about the food, there was a singer and a backing track playing and it was really loud. We are young people and had to shout at each other, I felt like an ‘oul one!
I’d be interested in trying Bay’s brunch menu some weekend. So, I will revert back once I’ve done that. See what’s on offer on their site. Enjoy!
